As the end of the school year approaches many charities are looking forward to and planning for summer. While many kids enjoy the freedom of summer there are far too many that are left without steady food, shelter and supervised activities. Untied Way of Southern Illinois mission mission states:
“Our objective is to contribute to better outcomes for children and families in Southern Illinois by focusing on the building blocks to self-sufficiency: education, income and health.
We’re impacting the lives of children and families we serve with a sharpened focus on our community impact. We are rallying all of our assets; funding, volunteers, legislative advocacy, technology, in-kind resources and corporate partnerships to continue to deliver measurable outcomes in a rapidly changing world of service an philanthropy.”
Every summer United Way of Southern Illinois looks to support three programs: Summer Reading and Activity program, Stuff the Bus, and Holiday Helping Hands. For their Summer Reading and Activity Program they are planning to supply each child with 3 books an outdoor activity and snacks. Parents receive listing of summer luncheon programs, 211 information and information on other local activities.
Great Expectations Foundation rewarded them with a $1,500 grant to help fund the program and the physical needs for books, food, and activities. United Way of Southern Illinois has been a long standing partner of Great Expectation Foundation and we continue to appreciate the value and programs they bring to our families and communities in Southern Illinois.
