Sister Thea Bowman Catholic School Mission:
“Sister Thea Bowman Catholic School, a ministry of the Diocese of Belleville, is committed to deepening faith in Jesus Christ, and to providing a holistic learning approach to faith development and education within a Catholic framework. Our mission is to inspire, prepare, and empower kindergarten through grade 8 students in East St. Louis and surrounding communities, to become the next generation of wholesome, responsible, and dedicated leaders of their communities and of our world.”
As a local school looking to better the youths chances of continuing their education Sister Thea Bowman Catholic School is proud to say 100% of their students enter high school and 95% of their graduate enroll in a college/university. In addition they promote what they have coined “The peacemaker Curriculum” stating:
“For our children to learn, they first have to know the consequences of their actions and have to have positive reinforcements for their positive actions. One of the ways we address this is through a peacemaker curriculum which defines expectations, teaches problem solving skills, rewards positive behavior and outlines consequences for disrespectful and irresponsible behavior. Peacemaking is nurtured through the daily recitation of the “Peace Pledge” by the entire student body and staff: “We are Peacemakers. We are respectful in actions and words to God, self, others and all creation”.
Great Expectations Foundation rewarded them with a $10,000 grant to help fund basics needs of the students, staff, and school. We believe the Sister Thea Bowman Catholic school continues to be a pillar of excellence in their community, supporting students at a young age and preparing them to excel in life.
